Carn Brea Mining Society was formed in 1974 with the objective of encouraging the study of all aspects of mining, geology and mineralogy in the South West of England.
For over a quarter of a century the Society has held and continues to hold regular meetings, usually illustrated talks by experts on mining or closely related subjects. During the summer field trips are held.
Evening meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday of the month and are free and all are most welcome
The Society is a member of the National Association of History Mining Organisation (NAMHO) . In 1987 the society organised the first NAMHO conference which was held in Truro
The Society continues to work closely with Councils, both at Local and District level. It regularly comments on planning and other proposals which could impact on mining sites, buildings or equipment of both historic and current mining setts.
All in all the Society believes that it can be considered to be the premier Mining Society in Cornwall.
